NEC Technology and Innovation Working Group meets with Former FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler in Boston

On October 16, 2023, the New England Council’s Technology and Innovation Working Group met with Former FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler in Boston, MA. Mr. Wheeler is a Global Counsel Senior Adviser, a visiting fellow in governance studies at The Brookings Institution, and former Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Wheeler’s tenure at the FCC covered the Obama-era establishment of net neutrality as well as major data privacy rules, and now at Brookings and his latest book – Techlash: Who Makes the Rules in the Digital Gilded Age? – he analyzes how these battles will play out in the era of AI and virtual reality.

He met with the Working Group to discuss these themes, offering invaluable insights into the state of US and global tech policy, the future of the digital economy and more.

We are grateful to Mr. Wheeler for taking the time to meet with our members. For more information on the Council’s Technology and Innovation Working Group, please contact Mariah Healy.
