Thank you to all who attended The New England Council’s 2022 Washington Leaders’ Conference!
Typically held each May, the conference is a two-day program featuring briefings, meetings, and networking with members of Congress, Congressional staff, and other federal policy officials. The conference typically draws over 200 Council members from all six New England states, representing all sectors of the region’s economy. The conference was suspended in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but were delighted to welcome over 200 Council members to our nation’s capital on May 11 and 12, 2022
The conference began with a Welcome Luncheon that featured a panel discussion with several national political journalists, including Jonathan Allen of NBC News, Kimberly Atkins Stohr of The Boston Globe, and Paul Kane of The Washington Post. Following the luncheon, the Council’s various policy committees and working groups convened for afternoon meetings with members of Congress, Congressional staff, and federal agency officials. The day concluded with a Capitol Hill Reception in honor of the New England Congressional delegation, many of whom attended, along with members of their staff.
The second day of the conference began with a Congressional Breakfast featuring remarks from several members of Congress. This year, the breakfast focused on highlighting legislative initiatives aimed at promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, Speakers included U.S. Representatives Jahana Hayes (D-CT), Richard Neal (D-MA), Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), and Lauren Underwood (D-IL). Following the breakfast, members participated in additional policy committee and working group meetings with members of Congress, Congressional staff, and federal agency officials.
