Washington Leaders’ Conference

Over 200 Council Members Attend 2023 Conference

The New England Council’s 2023 Washington Leaders’ Conference was held in our nation’s capital on Wednesday, May 10, and Thursday, May 11, 2023. Over 200 Council members–from all six New England states, representing all sectors of the region’s economy–joined us for two days of informative programming, networking opportunities, and meetings with Members of Congress, Congressional staff, and key federal agency leaders.

The conference began with a Welcome Luncheon that featured a “Perspectives from the Press Gallery” panel discussion with leading national political reporters from NBC News, Politico, Punchbowl News, and The New York Times.  Following the luncheon, members participated in a variety of policy committee meetings on Capitol Hill and with federal agencies.  Guests reconvened for the Capitol Hill Reception in the historic Kennedy Caucus Room to network with members of Congress and Congressional staff.  The day ended with the Washington Leaders’ Dinner, hosted by Kearney Donovan & McGee, Liberty Mutual, and National Grid.

Day two began with a Congressional Breakfast where members heard from retiring Congressman David Cicilline (D-RI), as well as the region’s two newly-elected House members, Representatives Seth Magaziner (D-RI) and Becca Balint (D-VT), and newly-elected Senator Peter Welch (D-VT).  Congressman Richie Neal (D-MA), the Dean of the New England delegation, also made a surprise appearance to wrap up the breakfast.  Following the breakfast, members participated in additional policy committee meetings.
