Transportation & Infrastructure

New Englanders know all too well the infrastructure challenges that our region faces.

Many of our bridges are structurally deficient and consistent increases in traffic have put more stress on our roadways. Demand for safe, affordable, and reliable public transit continues to grow, while ports and airports are essential to promote trade and connect New England to all corners of the world. Our aging water systems are in need of upgrades to ensure a clean water supply for this growing region. And finally, in our 21st century global economy, access to reliable and affordable internet access is critical to support innovation and economic equality.

The New England Council’s Transportation & Infrastructure Committee includes representatives of the transportation industry—including aviation, rail, bus, and transit—as well as construction and engineering firms, telecommunications providers, and technology companies. Together, the Committee works to provide a cohesive New England message on the transportation and infrastructure requirements that will allow our region to thrive for decades to come, and has in recent years advocated for a holistic, comprehensive approach to investing in our nation’s infrastructure.

The Transportation & Infrastructure Committee is chaired by Steve Silveira, Senior Vice President at ML Strategies. Peter Phipps is the NEC staff liaison for the Committee.
