Verizon Acquires Starry to Strengthen Urban Wireless Access
New England Council member Verizon has announced its plans to acquire Starry, a Boston-based company known for its innovative wireless technology. The deal will help Verizon expand its Fixed Wireless Access network and bring fast and affordable internet to larger populations across the U.S.
Founded in 2014, Starry was one of the first companies to deliver home internet without using a traditional cable. Starry grew to about 100,000 customers across cities like Boston, New York, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. Verizon sees this acquisition as a way to strengthen its wireless network, specifically in large apartment buildings and urban areas.
“By integrating their technology and expertise, we will accelerate our fixed wireless access capabilities, giving millions of new customers a powerful and affordable broadband option,” said Joe Russo, Verizon’s Executive Vice President. Starry’s 60 GHz spectrum technology will help Verizon deliver faster, more flexible internet to cities where building new wired networks can be expensive.
The New England Council congratulates Verizon on its commitment to advancements in wireless expansion.
