Webster Bank announces two promotions

New England Council member, Webster Bank, announced that Luis Massiani and Chris Motl have been promoted.

Luis Massiani has been promoted to Senior Executive VP and named President of Webster Bank, while maintaining his role as COO since January 2022, following the merger between Webster Financial Corporation and Sterling Bancorp. He oversees operations, technology, retail, digital banking, and corporate strategy.

Massiani joined Sterling in 2012, serving as CFO before becoming Bank President in 2020 and COO of Sterling National Bank in 2021. He holds an MBA from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business.

Chris Motl, President of Commercial Banking, has also been promoted to Senior Executive VP. Motl, who joined Webster in 2004, leads all commercial banking verticals and is responsible for the bank’s continued expansion in this area. His role expanded in 2020 with the integration of Business Banking.

“I am pleased to elevate these two exemplary leaders and recognize their outstanding contributions to the Company,” said John R. Ciulla, President and CEO of Webster Financial Corporation and CEO of Webster Bank. “Luis and Chris continue to demonstrate values-driven leadership and high performance that differentiates Webster in the marketplace.”

The New England Council would like to congratulate Webster Bank on its new leadership.
