New England Council member, JetBlue Airways has announced that the company’s current president and COO, Joanna Geraghty, will become CEO on February 12, following the retirement of current CEO, Robin Hayes. Geraghty will be the first female leader of a major U.S. airline.

Geraghty graduated from Worcester’s College of the Holy Cross in 1994 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. Before joining JetBlue in 2005, she was a partner at Holland & Knight.

“I am honored and excited to serve as the next CEO of JetBlue,” Geraghty said in a press release. “I’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished over the last 20-plus years, and I am looking forward to building on this momentum as we execute on our strategic initiatives, return to profitable growth, and generate sustainable value for our shareholders and all our stakeholders.”

The New England Council would like to congratulate JetBlue and Joanna Geraghty on this historic appointment.
