Beth Israel Lahey Health reports first Operating gain in four years

New England Council member Beth Israel Lahey Health reported a nearly $100 million operating gain for the fiscal year ending in September 2025, marking its first year in the black in four years. The state’s second-largest health system achieved 7 percent revenue growth to $7.6 billion while expanding its focus on community-based care and primary care services.

The financial turnaround reflects CEO Dr. Kevin Tabb’s strategic vision to deliver the majority of care outside traditional hospital settings. Currently, 64 percent of care for the system’s 1.7 million patients is provided outside its Boston and Burlington hospitals, with recent expansions including new facilities in Haverhill, Middleborough, and a planned clinic in Quincy. The system also grew its primary care network by 30 percent over the past four fiscal years, adding 60 primary care clinicians in the last year alone.

“I firmly believe the most important thing that he did over the rough years was stay the course,” said David Passafaro, former president of New England Baptist Hospital, which is part of the Beth Israel system. “That’s what has made where he is today possible.”

The New England Council commends Beth Israel Lahey Health for its strategic focus on accessible, community-based care and its strong financial performance, demonstrating the organization’s commitment to meeting patients where they are while maintaining fiscal sustainability.
