WPI Receives Federal Grant to Support Cybersecurity Scholarships
NEC member Worcester Polytechnic Institute has received a $4.9 million grant from the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to support the creation of scholarship programs for graduate and undergraduate students who commit to government service after graduation.
The National Science Foundation funding will go to the CyberCorps: Scholarship for Service Program. The program support 25 students over five years, and provides full tuition as well as a stipend, book allowance, and academic fees. The Department of Defense funding will support the Cyber Scholarship Program. Students apply directly to the DoD after graduation, and if accepted will be guaranteed a job in the DoD.
“Federal agencies need security experts and these scholarship programs are an excellent way to attract student attention and interest,” said Craig Shue, computer science associate professor and the director of the WPI Scholarships for Service program, in a statement.
