Vineyard Wind to Use GE Wind Turbines for Offshore Wind Farm
Vineyard Wind recently announced that it will be using wind turbines manufactured by NEC member General Electric to complete the first utility-scale offshore wind farm in the United States.
Vineyard Wind was also the first offshore wind project to be selected by Massachusetts utility companies. The wind farm will support efforts to meet goals set by the Baker Administration under a 2016 clean energy law and is expected to be completed by January 15, 2021. The offshore wind farm will be built 15 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard.
“GE Renewable Energy is proud to partner with Vineyard Wind for the first major offshore wind project in the US,” John Lavelle, president, and CEO of offshore wind at GE Renewable Energy said in a statement. “To be selected as the preferred supplier is an important sign of confidence for our proven technology and for all our employees around the world.”
