Verizon expands 5G coverage in Rhode Island

New England Council member, Verizon is expanding and strengthening its 5G Ultra Wideband coverage throughout the city of Providence and Rhode Island as a whole.

This move comes as Verizon upgrades 5G and C-band access across the entire U.S., raising connection speeds and access wherever they provide service. This has resulted in the doubling or tripling of available bandwidth in various markets and raises the average bandwidth available in every market to 161 megahertz, with up to 200 MHz of total spectrum available in primarily rural markets. This impressive development comes four months ahead of schedule, as Verizon now has full access to the 5G C-band spectrum it was awarded back in the Spring of 2021. For Rhode Island, these advancements allow an even higher degree of broadband connection, and nearly 86% of Providence neighborhoods are eligible for even faster 5G Ultra Wideband coverage.

“Early access to the remainder of the C-band spectrum puts us another four months ahead of schedule from our original projections. This additional spectrum will make 5G Ultra Wideband available to even more Americans and will open up more availability of our home and business broadband solutions,” said Joe Russo, EVP & President of Global Networks and Technology for Verizon.

The New England Council commends Verizon for its advancement in 5G connectivity.
