NEC member UMass Memorial Health Care has named Brian Gibbs, Ph.D., as Vice President and Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer. Dr. Gibbs most recently served as the founder and director of the Program to Eliminate Health Disparities at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Dr. Gibbs has also played prominent roles in health and diversity leadership at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) and was associate vice chancellor for diversity at the University of New Mexico’s Health Sciences Center. Dr. Gibbs also served as associate dean for diversity and cultural competence and an assistant professor in the department of medicine at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

“UMass Memorial is committed to transforming equity inpatient care for our communities and improving inclusion for our caregivers,” said Eric W. Dickson, MD, president, and CEO of UMass Memorial Health Care. “We believe Brian is the right leader to spearhead this transformation and position our organization to be the best place to give care for all caregivers and the best place to get care for every patient.”

The New England Council congratulates Dr. Gibbs on his new role in ensuring equitable patient outcomes at UMass Memorial Health Care. Read more from the UMass Memorial Health Care press release.
