UMass Medical School Names Vice Chancellor of Diversity and Inclusion

NEC member the University of Massachusetts Medical School recently announced the appointment of Marlina Duncan as the Worcester school’s first Vice Chancellor of Diversity and Inclusion.

Dr. Duncan earned a Ph.D. in Science Education from UMass Amherst and joins UMass Medical School from Brown University, where she served as the Vice President of Institutional Equity and Diversity. She also directed diversity initiatives, education and outreach programs at the Broad Institute in Cambridge. In her new position at UMass Medical School, Dr. Duncan will oversee the diversity and inclusion office, as well as work with diversity leaders in schools, businesses, and administrative departments.

“In her current role, Dr. Duncan is a thought leader and trusted adviser to administrators, faculty and students,” said UMass Medical School Chancellor Michael F. Collins. “Signature achievements during her tenure at Brown include playing an integral role in Brown’s Pathways to Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan, a university-wide diversity and inclusion blueprint and accountability mechanism; is a member of the university’s Diversity Advisory Board; and partnering with senior leaders to develop, execute and refine ongoing department-specific strategies to enhance diversity, equity and inclusion.”
