PC poised to feed R.I.’s health worker pipeline
New England Council member, Providence College is establishing a School of Nursing and Health Sciences in Rhode Island to address the shortage of healthcare professionals. The school’s construction, expected to cost $80 million, will provide a state-of-the-art facility for training nursing students and healthcare professionals.
The program has received significant interest, with over 1,000 applications received for the inaugural class of 100 students. The college plans to expand the program in the future and hopes to retain graduates in Rhode Island to strengthen the local healthcare workforce. The new building will provide students with classrooms, laboratories, immersive learning spaces, and collaboration spaces throughout its 147,000– square– feet.
“Our hope is that students build relationships and have experiences throughout the health care system in the state that many will be offered jobs, and many will be retained here in Rhode Island,” said Kyle McInnis, Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences.
