NEC releases update to AI Legislation Report

This week, the New England Council has released a new, updated version of last year’s Legislation Report on Artificial Intelligence. The new version includes all bills surrounding AI legislation from the past year, including policies concerning deepfakes, AI’s role in cybersecurity, preventing scams using AI, AI regulatory frameworks, and much more. Since the last version of this report, 48 new bills have been added.

With this legislation comes a number of bills sponsored by members of the New England Delegation, such as the Eliminating Bias in Algorithmic Systems Act of 2023, which was introduced by Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) and would require agencies using algorithms to have an office of civil rights focused on bias of algorithms. Another New England-sponsored bill is the AI Consent Act, introduced by Senator Peter Welch to require companies to receive consent from consumers in order to use consumer data to train their AI models.
