MassMutual Marks Milestone for Seaport Tower with “Topping Off” Ceremony

Start of building development in Boston Seaport

NEC member MassMutual celebrated a major milestone in the completion of the company’s new tower in Boston’s Seaport District with a steelworkers’ tradition. The members of the work crew signed the final beam before it was lifted into place.

MassMutual CEO Roger Crandall and Boston Mayor Marty Walsh also added their signatures to the beam. Despite a nine-week delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, construction workers have quickly made up the work. The 17-story tower will provide space for up to 1,000 MassMutual employees, as well as offices for startup incubator MassChallenge.

“These workers have done a superb job,” said MassMutual CEO Roger Crandall. “We’re still optimistic we’re going to open in the fall of next year and super optimistic we’ll have a vaccine and we’ll actually be able to have everybody at the office.”

The New England Council congratulates MassMutual on this exciting development and looks forward to visiting the new building next year. Read more from MassLive.
