Massachusetts General Hospital grants $18 million to affordable housing programs

Mass General Brigham

New England Council member, Massachusetts General Hospital, announced that it will distribute $18 million from its Community Health Impact fund to 22 local organizations that promote affordable housing.

These funds are MGH’s first housing provision and are part of a $62 million fund that will also attend to other community matters. The funding was part of an agreement from MGH’s Determination of Need process for the hospital’s Phillip and Susan Ragon building, which is in construction and will add about 500 beds to the hospital.

The funding is intended to support organizations that are producing and preserving affordable housing, preventing eviction and developing the community. Through the awards, MGH means to address housing insecurity as a public health crisis, according to the hospital.

The New England Council commends Massachusetts General Hospital’s dedication to addressing housing insecurity and supporting local communities.
