Mass. League of Community Health Centers CEO To Retire
James W. Hunt Jr., a longtime NEC board member, is stepping down after 41 years as CEO of NEC member the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers. Hunt has remained a pillar of the Massachusetts health community, and is recognized for his leadership in bringing low-cost, high-quality care to underserved communities.
Hunt has been CEO since 1979 and has encouraged the expansion of neighborhood health centers into areas that lacked sufficient care from the beginning of his tenure. Hunt was also pivotal in driving a national recruitment model for health professionals, as well as stimulating cooperation between neighborhood health centers.
Michael Curry, who currently serves as Deputy CEO and General Counsel, will succeed Hunt in December. Curry is also a former senior policy advisor for corporate affairs at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts.
“Jim Hunt is the chief architect of some of the most important health policy, regulatory and funding initiatives impacting the Commonwealth’s most underserved and underresourced communities over the last five decades,” said Elizabeth Browne, chair of the Massachusetts League’s board and CEO of Charles River Community Health in Brighton and Waltham.
