Maine credit unions raise $1.3 million in fight against food insecurity

Maine Credit Union League

New England Council member, Maine Credit Union League not only celebrates 35 years of fighting hunger in Maine with its Campaign for Ending Hunger, but also announces that it has raised a record $1,303,706.40 in funds from 2024.

The Maine Credit Union League has served as a nonprofit professional trade association since 1938, advocating for Maine’s credit unions’ services and mission. Since the Campaign for Ending Hunger’s inception in 1990, Maine credit unions have contributed over $14.9 million to address hunger issues across the state. The funds go towards local organizations such as food banks, pantries, healthcare programs, schools, colleges, and meal sites. Additionally, as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, all contributions and donations to the Campaign are tax-deductible.

“Hunger touches every corner of our state, impacting individuals both young and old,” said Elise Baldacci, President of the Maine Credit Union League. “As an industry driven by a shared mission of People Helping People, credit unions are deeply committed to solving this problem—offering their time, talent, and resources to address our state’s meal gap. Their unwavering support to end hunger in Maine is clearly demonstrated by these remarkable fundraising results.”

The New England Council commends the Maine Credit Union League for this major milestone and the Campaign’s unwavering support for Maine communities.
