John Hancock launches “Better” program to connect employees with company mission

GARY HIGGINS / BOSTON BUSINESS JOURNAL

New England Council member, John Hancock, along with its parent company, Manulife, has recently launched a program to help employees better connect and their jobs on a personal level. The Better Program initiative aims to increase workplace engagement and understanding of the company’s mission.

The Better Program encourages employees to share personal stories from their lives and connect them in some way to the company’s mission. The program began at a Global Colleague Forum in Toronto in February, where thousands of employees took part in the exercise. After the event, 82% of employees surveyed said they better understood the company’s work and 92% of employees agreed that the speakers made them proud of the company’s purpose.

“I think all of us by our nature feel better about our work when we understand the connections our work has to our customers in a real and personal way,” said John Hancock CEO Brooks Tingle.

The New England Council commends John Hancock for creating this new program.
