New England Council member, Boston University marked the grand opening of the Robotics & Autonomous Systems Teaching and Innovation Center (RASTIC) on March 4. The opening of this new center will allow BU students to partner with industry to design, build, and test a range of robotic solutions to real-world problems.

Massachusetts Secretary of Economic Development Yvonne Hao remotely controlled a robotic vehicle that cut the ribbon for the opening ceremony in the 200-capacity Photonics Colloquium Room, and in her remarks highlighted Massachusetts’s leading role in robotics and how this state-of-the-art facility will help keep the Bay State competitive.

“It’s amazing that in two weeks you have this incredibly passionate set of students who are so engaged in solving big, ambitious problems, integrating all these robotics and tinkering with them in the lab,” said Hao.

Visitors toured RASTIC following the ceremony and met students who discussed and demonstrated their projects ranging from autonomous vehicles to soft robotic surgical tools.

The New England Council would like to congratulate and express its excitement to Boston University for opening this new robotics center.
