The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has cleared a new single-use bronchoscope made by the medical device manufacturer and NEC member, Boston Scientific.

The bronchoscope, EXALT Model B, will revolutionize bedside procedures in the ICU and operating rooms. The EXALT Model B will provide quality imaging in three different sizes with suction capacity that can assist in the aspiration of blog clots and lung isolation. This single-use device will minimize infections caused by reusing bronchoscopes and allow for improved health care.

Each year over 1.2 million bedside procedures require a bronchoscopy—this new device will allow for safer procedures.

The New England Council commends Boston Scientific for its innovative efforts to help advance and improve medical care.
