Emmanuel College adds men’s and women’s wrestling teams to athletic program

New England Council member, Emmanuel College, recently added a men’s and women’s varsity wrestling program to its athletic department. The new teams will start competing in the 2025-2026 academic year. The new varsity team will represent the only Division III collegiate wrestling programs in the City of Boston.

“This new wrestling program is a win for current and future Emmanuel student-athletes and for our entire community,” said Emmanuel College President Beth Ross. “We are excited to provide wrestlers superb opportunities to engage in Division III intercollegiate competition, and we look forward to the way they will further electrify our Boston campus with their displays of athleticism, stamina, and heart.”

The new addition is in part due to the growth in student interest in wrestling as a collegiate sport. In 2020-2021, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) declared women’s wrestling as an emerging sport, ince then, 66 institutions have added the new sport to their athletic programs. Now, women’s wrestling is on track to becoming a part of the 91st NCAA Championship.

The New England Council commends Emmanuel College for its new addition to its athletic program.
