Education Development Center Organizes Statewide Virtual Substance Abuse Prevention Conference

NEC member the Educational Development Center (EDC) has helped to organize a three-day Massachusetts Bureau of Substance Addiction Services (BSAS) Substance Abuse Prevention Conference. The event will be led by BSAS with support from the Center for Strategic Prevention and Support (CSPS).

The focus of this year’s conference will be on the deadly effects of institutional racism, and how policies reinforce and contribute inequitable health outcomes, particularly in Black and Indigenous communities. The conference will provide prevention practitioners to examine their role in this system and explore possible solutions. Participants will discuss how racism and drug policies affect health outcomes, ways to develop and restore trust with community partners, and ways to continue the work of substance abuse prevention through a racial equity lens.

The New England Council applauds EDC in helping to organize this conference to examine systemic health inequities. Read more from the CSPS press release.
