Deloitte Report Finds Generative AI Use Soaring Among U.S. Consumers

New England Council Member Deloitte has released its 2025 “Connected Consumer” survey, revealing that Generative AI (Gen AI) has gone mainstream in the U.S. Over half of consumers surveyed (53%) report using or experimenting with GenAI, and workplace usage has increased more than fivefold since 2023, from 6% to 34%.

Despite its rapid adoption, the report highlights growing public concern over privacy and data security. Seventy percent of respondents worry about how their data is used, and 82% of GenAI users fear the technology could be misused. Deloitte’s findings suggest that trust and data responsibility will be key differentiators for companies as AI use popularizes.

“GenAI is having an early internet-era moment – the excitement is real, and adoption is accelerating fast.”  said China Widener, Vice Chair and Technology, Media & Telecommunications Industry Leader at Deloitte. “But as usage surges, consumer trust isn’t keeping pace. Companies that protect data and empower consumer choice will earn lasting loyalty.”

The Deloitte survey also found that consumers who view their tech providers as both innovative and responsive spend 62% more annually on devices compared to those who view them as lagging in both areas – demonstrating that trust is a powerful growth driver.

The New England Council congratulates Deloitte for its continued leadership in examining consumer technology trends and commends the firm for advancing understanding of responsible innovation in an AI-driven world.
