Comcast launches storm-proof Wi-Fi extender

New England Council member, Comcast is launching Storm-Ready Wi-Fi, a new cellular-equipped backup router to keep customers connected during localized power outages.

Citing the recent increase in severe weather events across the country, Comcast maintains that the innovative device will fulfill a growing need in American households. Storm-Ready Wi-Fi can support six connected devices at once and features a four-hour rechargeable battery. When it’s not acting as a backup router, the device doubles as a Wi-Fi extender to deliver faster speeds, lower latency, and increased bandwidth throughout the user’s household.

In the event of a power outage, Storm-Ready Wi-Fi automatically transitions to cellular back-up, allowing customers to continue using the internet hassle-free. Comcast’s innovative philosophy is incorporated into the design itself, which includes a case made from 65 percent recycled plastic.

“With so much of our daily lives dependent on Wi-Fi connectivity, we knew our customers needed a product that could help keep them connected no matter what life throws at them – even during a storm,” said Emily Waldorf SVP of Consumer Internet Services at Comcast Cable. “Storm-Ready Wi-Fi is that solution.”

The New England Council commends Comcast for this breakthrough in consumer internet technology.
