NEC member College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, has been named a First-Gen Forward institution by the Center for First-Generation Student Success. The college boasts a 16% first-generation population, a group where students, as the first in their family to attend college, face a myriad of challenges related to learning to navigate the college experience on their own.

The designation broadens opportunities to engage with peer institutions on ways to better support and improve the first-generation student experience, with programs in networking and professional development, goal setting, individual check-ins, and more.

Michele Murray, vice president for student affairs and dean of students at Holy Cross, stated, “Joining First-Gen Forward both honors the work we have been doing to support first-generation students at Holy Cross to achieve their greatest goals, and gives us access to additional tools and resources to improve our efforts.”

The New England Council applauds this newly awarded designation and looks forward to seeing Holy Cross continue to support its first-generation students. Read more from the Worcester Business Journal.
