Clark University announces new School of Climate, Environment, and Society
New England Council member, Clark University, announced the establishment of the School of Climate, Environment, and Society. A $10 million dollar donation from philanthropist and former Clark trustee Vickie Riccardo and her daughters Jocelyn and Alyssa Spencer allowed the school to hire a new dean, Lou Leonard, and begin to launch its initial research programs.
Opening in fall 2025 on its Worcester campus, the new school aims to help undergraduate and graduate students advance in disciplines such as political science, earth science, and sustainable and climate-resilient development, preparing them for careers in tackling the climate crisis.
“If we can unleash the energy and the talent of higher education to get after these global challenges, it would probably make as big a difference as anything else that we could do, because we’ve got all this talent that’s insufficiently mobilized at a time when, literally, the world is burning, and we all need to be at the table,” said Leonard.
The New England Council congratulates Clark University on this significant milestone and the new opportunities for Clark students and faculty.
