New England Council member Citizens Bank has donated more than $1 million to Feeding America to end food hunger in America. Along with this donation, Citizens will be providing virtual food drives and increasing support for employees to help their local communities.

This will be the fifth consecutive year Citizens has partnered with Feeding America to conquer food insecurity. Citizens said that the company has committed to distributing grants to address critical needs to increase access to nutritious foods in BIPOC households residing in communities with high food insecurity rates. Throughout the month of September, Citizens will host virtual food drives in which every dollar donated will be matched up to $20,000.

Bruce Van Saun, Chairman and CEO of Citizens Financial Group said, “[f]or millions of people in America, a daily meal isn’t a choice between different dishes. It’s often an impossible choice between food and other critical needs Our partnership with Feeding America helps to tackle the root causes of hunger and aims to increase the scale and impact of local food banks, particularly now, as our communities continue grappling with economic instability.”

The New England Council would like to commend Citizens Bank for its commitment to tackling food insecurity.
