Boston Beer Co. welcomes founder and longtime CEO, Jim Koch, back to the position

New England Council member, Boston Beer Company, maker of Sam Adams, announced that founder Jim Koch would be returning as CEO. Koch founded what would become Boston Beer Co. in 1984 and served as CEO until 2001.
Koch has been chairman since 2001, staying involved in the company, but on Friday, August 1st, the company announced he would be returning as CEO effective August 15th. Koch succeeding Michael Spillane who was CEO for 16 months, after having been on the board since 2016. The reason for Spillane’s step down is to focus on “important personal matters.”
“He’s given us a steady leadership hand during a dynamic time for our industry, and under his guidance, we delivered one of our most profitable quarters in many years in the second quarter,” said Koch. “I appreciate everything Michael has done for us, and we’re thrilled he’s going to continue to help shape our strategy as a member of our board of directors. I am confident in the strength of our management team and Boston Beer’s strategic direction and remain committed to delivering long-term value for shareholders.”
The New England Council wishes Boston Beer Co. a smooth transition and a congratulations for a great CEO’s return.
