Anna Maria College announces new President

New England Council member Anna Maria College has appointed Dr. Sean J. Ryan as the institution’s 12th President, succeeding President Mary Lou Retelle, who announced her retirement last year. Dr. Ryan, a New England native, was selected by Anna Marie’s Board of Trustees from his current position at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky, where he managed numerous departments in his role as a senior vice president, including human resources, athletics, university communications, and information technology. He will assume leadership at Anna Maria College in July of this year.

“I am honored and humbled to be selected as the next president of Anna Maria College,” said Dr. Ryan. “Anna Maria’s mission to educate students to become ethical leaders and community-oriented professionals resonates profoundly with me as an individual and my passion for higher education. I look forward to returning to Massachusetts to work alongside the talented faculty, staff, and students and build upon the strong foundation established by President Retelle. Together . . . we will chart an ambitious path forward that propels the College to new levels of academic excellence and distinction.”

The New England Council congratulates Anna Maria College and Dr. Sean Ryan on this appointment.
