New England Council member, Amazon, recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new 2.8-million square-foot, $300M robotics fulfillment center in Charlton. The facility, which opened in November, has approximately 1,000 full-time employees and can store up to 32 million items. The facility also utilizes robotic drive units capable of lifting 1,500 pounds.

Amazon has committed to a $10.2 million community partnership with the Town of Charlton to support transportation infrastructure upgrades, STEM education initiatives, and provide more resources for public safety equipment and recreational facilities.

The impact that Amazon has had statewide is about 20,000 jobs, and that continues to grow. This technology shows [Massachusetts’] leadership in robotics, and that means faster delivery of goods for both sellers and buyers,” said Governor Maura Healey.

The New England Council commends Amazon for this milestone and its commitment to supporting local communities.
