AT&T Supports Maine First Responders and Customers
NEC Member AT&T has provided greater connectivity with its FirstNet cell sites, located throughout Maine. The new infrastructure is part of a push to bring greater connectivity across the state.
FirstNet is the only high-speed broadband communications system nationwide that is purpose-built with first responders and the public safety community in mind. To create the system, AT&T partnered with the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet Authority), which is an independent agency within the federal government. AT&T has also recently updated over 150 existing cell sites across the state in order to expand coverage, including upgrading the sites to support the AT&T LTE spectrum. The update also included the inclusion of Band 14 spectrum, which is reserved for first responders but can include other traffic when capacity is available.
“I welcome FirstNet’s commitment to enhance wireless coverage across Maine,” said Governor Janet Mills. “This announcement is an important step forward in supporting emergency first responders as they conduct their critical work, in supporting the health and safety of Maine people, and in connecting more Maine people to our global network.
