Samaritans Recognized at Fenway Park for National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

New England Council member Samaritans, Massachusetts’ largest suicide prevention organization, was honored on September 15 at the Red Sox pre-game ceremony at Fenway Park.

Kacy Maitland, Samaritans chief clinical officer, and an active member of the New England Council, threw out the first pitch in honor of National Suicide Prevention Awareness month. The Red Sox announced their “Changeup the Conversation” initiative in May, which is a season-long project honoring and supporting mental health support organizations. Maitland is Samaritans representative for this initiative.

This is the second year in a row Samaritans has been honored at Fenway. Last year, Samaritans CEO Kathleen Marchi threw the first pitch. “Nearly 50,000 people die by suicide each year–more than the capacity of Fenway Park,” Marchi said. “We applaud the Red Sox for supporting mental health and wellness as a season-long initiative.”

The New England Council applauds Samaritans for their incredibly important work and commends another New England Council member, the Red Sox, for their dedication and commitment to utilize their platform for good.

Stay tuned for an interview with Samaritans CEO Kathy Marchi on our podcast, Inside the Corner Office, in December.
