Norwich University welcomes high-ranked Marine officer as its 25th President

Norwich University

New England Council member, Norwich University, inaugurated Lt. Gen. John J. Broadmeadow USMC (Ret.) as the 25th president of the university this month. A Class of 1983 graduate, President Broadmeadow has been leading the school in this role for the past year, with the inauguration making the appointment official. He brings 36 years of professional experience from the United States Marine Corps, and will not only be the first Norwich alumnus to lead the school in more than 30 years, but the first Marine to hold the position.

Being a Norwich graduate himself and having served on the Board of Trustees, Broadmeadow has strong personal and institutional ties to Norwich. His extensive experience in Marine command and logistics positions him well to lead Norwich University in its mission to develop leaders.

“Ever since arriving in the fall of 1979, Norwich, its ideals, and its people have been central to my personal and professional life,” said Lt. Gen. Broadmeadow at the ceremony. “It is now my job to understand that we must continue to accomplish our mission. I understand and I accept that profound responsibility you have now entrusted in me as the president of Norwich University.”

The New England Council congratulates Norwich University and President Broadmeadow and looks forward to the university’s continued involvement with the Council.
