New England Council to Compile and Distribute Member Examples of National Impact of NIH Funding
Overview:
With National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding at risk under the current Administraiton and Congress, the New England Council is working with our members to help make the case for why this funding is important – not just to the New England states, but nationwide. To do so, we plan to compile examples from our members of how NIH research funding awarded to New England institutions is having both direct and indirect impact, both economically and on patients, across the country.
Purpose:
Once gathered and compiled, we plan to make this resource available to our members for use in their own advocacy efforts, and distribute to the New England Congressional Delegation and their staffs for use in their advocacy. We are also considering a Capitol Hill Briefing highlighting how NIH funding to New England benefits the entire nation later this year.
Submissions:
New England Council members are invited to submit stories in one of two categories:
- Direct Impact of NIH Funding – If your organization is the recipient of an NIH grant, please share an example of how that grant has had an impact beyond the New England region. For example: research on a disease or condition afflicting a significant number of Americans, clinical trials taking place throughout the country, research where your organization has partnered with other institutions outside of New England, or research where your organization has purchased equipment/supplies from outside of the region.
- Indidirect Impact of NIH Funding – If your organization is NOT the recipient of an NIH grant, but has compelling examples of the impact of NIH funding. For example, life sciences companies who have ultimately brought a treatment to the market based on NIH-funded research, new companies spun our from research (especially if outside New England), job opportunities created as a result of NIH funded research.
While we recognize that many members have numerous examples, in both categories, members are invited to share your most compelling example with the broadest national impact.
To Submit:
Please use this form to submit your example by May 31, 2025. Our goal is to compile these examples into one resource that will be available primarily electronically by July 1.
