Biogen announces new Cambridge headquarters

New England Council member, Biogen, recently announced that the company’s global headquarters will be moving to a new 580,000-square foot lab and office space in MIT’s Volpe Center in Kendall Square. Construction on the space will begin soon and the company is expecting to make the move in 2028, when Biogen celebrates its 50th anniversary. The move will consolidate three of Biogen’s local buildings into one space.

The company has signed a 15-year lease for the new facility, which is part of the Kendall Common development project. Biogen plans to be the sole tenant in the building, which allows the company to create a tailored “purpose-built innovation hub designed to foster increased collaboration among employees and external partners.”

“Nearly 50 years after first putting down roots in Kendall Square, Biogen is embarking on a new chapter in the very heart of the community that has shaped our success. Our new space will support the advancement of our pipeline of breakthrough medicines by bringing our employees together and fostering collaboration with leading scientific minds, key partners, and top talent,” said Christopher A. Viehbacher, President and Chief Executive Officer at Biogen.

The New England Council congratulates Biogen for its new headquarters.
