UMass Memorial to launch first postpartum home hospital program in the United States
Under the guidance of New England Council member, UMass Memorial Medical Center, Dr. Dejah Judelson experienced a smoother recovery from her third cesarean section thanks to the new home hospital program.
This innovative program allowed her an early discharge, benefiting both her need for comfort at home and the hospital’s bed availability and cost-saving measures. As one of the program’s first participants, Dr. Judelson, a respected doctor and vascular surgeon at UMass Chan School of Medicine, found the prospect of reuniting with her two young children post-birth particularly appealing.
The program, which has traditionally supported patients with less severe conditions, now includes those who have undergone cesarean sections. Dr. Judelson’s quick transition from hospital to home care, complete with daily nurse visits and continuous monitoring, exemplifies the program’s effectiveness in enhancing patient recovery and comfort. With plans to expand, the program aims to significantly improve patient flow and hospital capacity.
The New England Council commends UMass Memorial for its efforts to improve childbirth experiences and patient care.
