Nichols College and UMass Dartmouth to offer accelerated law degree

New England Council members, Nichols College and University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, have partnered to allow Nichols students to pursue an accelerated law degree at Massachusetts’ only public law school, UMass Law.

Students who enroll in the “3+3 program” will split their education between Nichols and UMass Law in Dartmouth, earning both a bachelor’s degree and a juris doctor in a shorter timeframe. At the same time, students will save a year of tuition and living expenses while they complete their final year of the undergraduate degree concurrently with their first year of law school. The program is designed to adapt to students’ learning trajectories and allows them to apply for the accelerated degree in their first or second undergraduate year. UMass Dartmouth has arranged similar programs with over a dozen other regional schools, including New England Council member Worcester State University.

“We’re delighted to partner with UMass Law to enable Nichols College students to earn bachelor’s and juris doctor degrees in six years,” Nichols Provost Daniel Borgia said in the press release. “In addition to the significant cost savings, our students will have the guidance and support of exceptional faculty and staff on both campuses who will help prepare them for meaningful careers.”

The New England Council commends both UMass Dartmouth and Nichols College for their partnership to offer new opportunities to prospective law students.
