Northeastern University to open new science center

CNN

New England Council member, Northeastern University, has announced the opening of a new science center, EXP, in the 2023 Fall Semester.

The EXP center is eight stories tall and hosts a variety of unique features. For example, in the building’s “ideation space,” there is a 12-ton crane for moving robots and equipment, while in its “maker space,” students can utilize materials such as 3-D printing devices, vinyl cutter machines, and sewing supplies for class or personal projects. However, the central focus of the building is on the abundance of labs with state-of-the-art equipment, including the largest installation of filtered fume hoods in the world. With this, Northeastern aims to hire 500 full-time, research-engaged faculty members in the next 5 years, while also undertaking sustainable practices, allowing Northeastern to receive LEED-platinum status.

“If we’re going to maximize our impact, we’re not going to do it by staying in place,” said David Madigan, provost for Northeastern University.

The New England Council congratulates Northeastern University for this expansion.
