National Grid supports development of Long Island’s first LGBT Chamber of Commerce
New England Council Member National Grid has aided in the development of Long Island New York’s first LGBT Chamber of Commerce. National Grid gave a $5,000 grant to kickstart what will be the first regional LGBT chamber in the country.
The grant was a part of National Grid’s program ‘Project C’ which intends to help support their local communities. The new chamber welcomes membership to all companies that intend to support LGBT-owned businesses and the LGBT community. The aim of the new chamber is to help break barriers of LGBT businesses for community members to establish, grow and sustain businesses. The chamber is hoping that the current Long Island business community will rally to join the new chamber to see more equity and a sense of belonging for both employees and customers.
At the announcement of the grant donation, National Grid’s Director of Customer and Community Management, Kathy Wisnewski commented, “One of our Project C commitments is to compassionately address the challenges our customers face, including environmental justice and social equity. To do that, we must break barriers so that LGBT business owners have the same resources and opportunities available to them as other businesses.”
The New England Council would like to commend National Grid for its commitment to supporting LGBTQ+ within the business community.
