National Grid offers diversity scholarships for engineering students

New England Council member, National Grid, has opened a scholarship program for engineering students who are either planning on or already enrolled in an undergraduate program pursuing engineering. If they win, they will receive $10,000 scholarships as well as a paid summer internship at National Grid, this program is working towards expanding diversity in the engineering sector.

This scholarship is a part of the company-wide commitment National Grid has made to increasing its diversity across all new talent recruitment programs. On top of that, a student can receive the scholarship for up to four years of college so long as they maintain a 3.0 GPA in an engineering program and come from a household with less than 80% of the Housing and Urban Development median income. This stipulation was put in place to ensure increased diversity against economic backgrounds. In addition, students living and attending college in Massachusetts or New York are eligible.

“As one of the biggest drivers of the delivery of a clean energy future, we know we must also invest in the workforce needed to achieve net-zero,” John Pettigrew, CEO of National Grid, said in a statement. “I strongly believe that National Grid can be a force for doing good.”

The New England Council would like to commend National Grid on its offering of diversity scholarships for engineering students.
