Ameresco awarded $7.9M U.S. Army contract
The New England Council member, Ameresco, has been awarded a contract to design and construct a new solar energy system for the U.S. Army. This project is going to a joint venture of Framingham-based Ameresco and Hannah Solar Government Services of South Carolina. The two companies will work together to design and construct a 1.5-megawatt, ground mount, solar photovoltaic system at the Army’s Tooele Army Depot in Tooele, Utah, with construction starting this summer.
The idea is to help the military base cut down on the electrical costs it incurs annually with traditional power sources. HSGS-Ameresco, LLC is a partnership between the two companies that came from the U.S. Small Business Administration Mentor Protégé program, where eligible small businesses partner with more experienced companies so the smaller entity can gain exposure and win government contracts. Ameresco is the mentor in this situation as it has experience in bringing cleantech solutions to the federal government.
“With one-tenth of the Army housed at Fort Bragg, including Special Operations, Airborne and Global Response Force forces, it is imperative to provide energy security and improvements to the installation’s utility infrastructure,” said Nicole Bulgarino, Ameresco Executive Vice President & General Manager of Federal Solutions. “We’re eager to get to work installing these energy saving and resiliency measures across Fort Bragg and to support the readiness of the U.S. Army by maintaining a continuous power supply at this critical installation.”
