New England Council member, Roger Williams University, is taking strategic steps to respond to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and prepare for the future as cases decline. The university’s Chief of Staff, Brian Williams, has overseen Roger Williams University’s pandemic response from March 2020 onwards and has made valiant efforts to prioritize the health of students since taking on this position.

According to Williams, the university’s COVID-19 approach has rolled out in four phases, moving from remote learning to hybrid learning and testing efforts, to vaccination efforts, and eventually to an “endemic” with optional masking. Williams and the university have also prioritized communication amongst students and faculty, creating a COVID-19 dashboard to keep students informed and up to date.

When speaking on RWU’s strategies for increased communication, Williams stated “I think a big lesson from a lot of us across the administration is that when things are happening in real-time, we need to be mindful of the overall communication that everybody hears and information that any given individual needs at that moment.”

The New England Council commends Roger Williams University for its effort to prioritize the health and wellbeing of its students and to strategically plan for optimal communication within the university.
