MIT brings together energy giants for new research initiative
New England Council member, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), has started a groundbreaking initiative to combat the climate crisis. This MIT initiative, called the Future Energy Systems Center, brings together many of the world’s largest energy and utility companies, such as Exxon, Chevron, and NEC member, Eversource, to “find technology-based solutions to climate change.” This group will explore systems that would capture carbon dioxide emissions, infrastructure for fast-charging electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles, and other possible climate solutions.
When speaking on this initiative and how MIT can help make plans to tackle climate change, Robert Armstrong, a chemical engineering professor and director of the MIT Energy Initiative, said, “You have to bring all the disciplines together at a place like MIT if you expect to make progress.” He added, “Everybody’s got these goals and aspirations, but the question is how do you get there from here? Our goal is to help these aspiring groups to convert those goals and aspirations into actual plans.”
The New England Council applauds the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for its efforts to increase collaboration among energy and utility companies and address climate change with technology-based solutions.
