Beth Israel Lahey Health Develops Plans for Needham Campus Expansion
New England Council member Beth Israel Lahey Health is developing plans to expand its Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Needham campus with a new ambulatory care building. Hospital officials recently presented preliminary plans for the building to the Needham Planning Board. The proposed facility would be located across the street from the hospital’s existing facility and operate under the same license.
Patient demand at the Needham location has grown significantly over the past decade. Emergency room visits increased 88% from 15,590 in 2015 to 29,256 in 2025, while the number of hospitalized patients increased 139% from 3,176 to 7,576. The proposed expansion would include space for surgery, women’s health, primary care, behavioral health and a digestive-health center.
“BID Needham has experienced tremendous growth in recent years, and we are excited about the opportunity to expand the care and services we can provide to patients right here in the community,” said John Fogarty, president of BID Needham. “We are still very early in the planning process, and over the coming year we look forward to working closely with town leaders and the broader Needham community as the plans take shape.”
The New England Council commends Beth Israel Lahey Health for its continued investment in the Needham and surrounding areas and its efforts to expand access to health care services.
