Suffolk University and the City of Boston Grant $50,000 to Small Businesses
New England Council member Suffolk University and the City of Boston recently announced $50,000 in grants for small businesses participating in Suffolk’s Business Advancement for Small Enterprises (BASE) program. The grant is funded by the federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
BASE provides early-stage entrepreneurs in the Greater Boston area with numerous resources to help launch and grow their businesses. Along with financial support, the program includes a bootcamp to teach business planning, marketing, operations, and financial literacy, and provides mentorship from Suffolk alumni, subject matter experts, and local business leaders.
Boston is home to more than 19,000 small businesses, which employ approximately 127,000 people and generate nearly $28 billion annually. “BASE was built on the belief that talent and ambition are everywhere in Boston, but opportunity is not always equally distributed,” said Shari L.S. Worthington, associate director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at Suffolk University’s Sawyer Business School. “These grants help close that gap by giving entrepreneurs additional resources to help move their businesses forward.”
The New England Council commends Suffolk University for supporting local entrepreneurs and expanding access to the resources and mentorship needed to help small businesses grow.
