NEC Urges Congress to Pass Retirement Savings Package

The New England Council has urged the region’s Senate delegation to support and advance a bipartisan retirement savings package that is currently before the chamber. The package, known as SECURE 2.0 would create more options and opportunities for New Englanders to plan for retirement. Through a letter sent to the Senate on November 22nd, the Council has asked Congress to pass the legislation by the end of the year.

Read the Letter

Earlier this year, SECURE 2.0 passed the House of Representatives, bolstering the original SECURE Act that was signed into law at the end of 2019. This second round of retirement savings legislation is now before the Senate, where relevant Senate Committees have passed the RISE & SHINE Act and the EARN Act unanimously, paving the way for even more retirement savings options for New Englanders.

The Council has previously supported SECURE 2.0 in the House of Representatives, we now call on the Senate to follow suit and pass this strong bipartisan retirement savings legislation by the end of the year.
