MilliporeSigma partnership provides STEM summer camp for girls
Over the past few years many advances have been made to help young women enter into STEM related fields. Currently women only make up 28% of the workforce, and only 5% are women of color. New England Council Member MilliporeSigma, a life science company based in Burlington. MA, is continuing their partnership with Girlstart, a nonprofit that specializes in granting young women opportunities in the STEM field.
MilliporeSigma first teamed with Girlstart in 2017 and have continued to have a very supportive and fruitful partnership. Through the financial support of MilliporeSigma, Girlstart has reached 53,000 underprivileged young women through their summer camps and after school programs. Girlstart’s data shows that 73% of girls who participate in the organization’s summer camp program one time graduate from college and that percentage increases as girls enroll in more camps
Melissa Hackmeier, the Head of Employee and Community Engagement for MilliporeSigma, noted that the partnership “is in direct alignment with us by directly serving students to increase equity and access to people of color and young girls.”
The New England Council celebrates the achievement of this partnership and thanks MilliporeSigma for is dedication to increasing the participation and interest of young women in STEM. Read more from BostInno.
