Amazon moves forward on second Seaport office building

New England Council member Amazon is moving ahead with its second office building in Boston’s Seaport District, receiving nearly $32 million in building permits this month for interior work at One Boston Wharf Road. The permits cover offices, conference rooms, amenity spaces, and mechanical, electrical, and fire safety systems, signaling that a 2027 move-in is on track.

Amazon signed the lease for One Boston Wharf Road in 2021 but announced in 2024 that employees would not begin moving in until 2027. The new building follows the company’s 2022 opening of a 17-story, 525,000-square-foot first Seaport office, which established Amazon as one of the neighborhood’s major employers alongside Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Boston Consulting Group, and PwC. The Boston offices include roles focused on artificial intelligence and robotics.

Amazon’s expansion comes amid broader growth expected in the Seaport, which will also include new headquarters for Gillette in Fort Point and Fidelity Investments at Commonwealth Pier.

The New England Council congratulates Amazon on this continued investment in Boston and looks forward to the company’s expanded presence in the Seaport District.
