Regional Transportation Summit
St. Anselm College, Manchester, NH

The New England Council hosted a two-day conference of U.S. Representatives from New England and a host of state and regional experts to focus on transportation issues in advance of the next federal surface transportation reauthorization. The Council was also pleased to welcome the heads of five New England States’ Transportation Departments or Executive Offices who participated with members of Congress, federal transportation officials, members of regional planning commissions and regional transit authorities, and faculty from university-run transportation centers. Participants joined together for a series of panel discussions concerning federal funding, economic development, interstate agency cooperation, and the affordable housing and the environment as they relate to transportation.

The New England Council is proud to host its annual event in Washington, D.C. on March 12th and 13th. The Council invites members and non-members alike to attend the White House briefing on Wednesday followed by our Congressional Reception to which the entire New England congressional delegation and their staff are invited. On Thursday, the Council will host a Congressional Breakfast at which Members of Congress will address attendees. Congressman Peter Welch will join members of the Council to discuss important issues that may be addressed during the 110th Congress. The Congressman is serving in his first term in the U.S. House of Representatives. Roundtable Luncheon with U.S. Representative Jim Langevin
Providence Westin Hotel, 1 West Exchange Street, Providence, RI

Congressman Jim Langevin, who has represented Rhode Island’s second district in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2000, joined New England Council members to discuss his priorities for 2008. Prior to his election to the House, he served as a State Representative, then as Rhode Island Secretary of State. Congressman Langevin is a member of the Homeland Security Committee, and chairs the Subcommittee on Emerging Threats, Cybersecurity, and Science and Technology. He focuses a great deal of his efforts on issues regarding stem cell research and healthcare.
